Happy Halloween

French Mommy

French Mommy and baby

Bright red lipstick

Happy Halloween from the French Mommy and the baby Bumblebee! My costume came from my closet - no cost = awesome. Munchkin's bumblebee costume came from goodwill for $7. (It is about five sizes too big so I did some duck tape hemming!) The mask is actually a toy that we bought on clearance a while ago. He was tickled to death and mommy didn't have to spend $30 on a flimsy costume that wouldn't hold up.

Thrifty Thursday - Old Navy pants

tee: ???, pants: old navy, bag: target, shoes: thrifted

So, this week's Thrifty Thursday find isn't from a thrift store, but from Old Navy and their wonderful and odd 75% off fall sale. I got these in the store for under $10 and I totally love them. They are available online in black and this lovely taupe that occasionally looks grey. Apparently they are actually capris. Unless you're a shrimp like me, then they are a nice ankle length. ;) I love the silky drapey fabric and the color looks great with brights and jewel tones. They have an elastic waist with a drawstring so the fit is super comfy.

Work it Wednesday - Teal Raglan sleeve Sweater

with grey jeans
with a maxi dress
with cutoff jeans shorts

I love this sweater - I bought it several years ago at Target because the color was gorgeous and it has buttons up the back. ;) Irresistible, right?! The raglan style sleeve has a very nice balancing effect on my busty figure. I am looking forward to wearing it with a long sleeve top underneath as it gets colder - maybe a striped one. ;)

Happy Wednesday, y'all!

Summer to Fall

top & scarf: gifted, jeans: old navy, oxfords: payless

ginormous silver earrings and bad lighting
Stripes, a scarf and jeans - pretty simple and super comfy. Fall has finally arrived and the weather has a brisk little nip. We literally went from 80 degrees to 50 degrees overnight. Not so good for the sinuses. However I am glad to pull out the sweaters and scarves and hopefully soon the boots.

I finally put away my summer clothes and shoes and pulled out my fall and winter stuff this weekend. I love closet changeover time because I always forget about some of the clothes and shoes that I haven't seen in six months. I am looking forward to sweaters and tights and boots and jackets and scarves - all those fun things that don't see the light of day when it is warm outside. Mmmmm - I love fall. ;)

A Grammy Blouse

blouse & bag: thrifted, skirt: target, heels: ???

I love this outfit. The blouse, the skirt, the shoes. It just felt perfect. I am actually wearing grey hose - but they aren't really showing up in the pics. I kept the accessories to a minimum since the blouse is so bright. ;) I love this blouse, it just makes me happy. When I was a kid, my grammy had tie neck blouse in this exact color. So even though this isn't actually her blouse, it reminds me of her. And hello, it has an asymmetrical neckline. How cool is that.

So, sorry for the messy pics. It was pouring rain outside today and the boxes are indicative of the news I alluded to on Friday. We are moving. My hubby was laid off and we will be moving into his grandmother's house to conserve funds. We are pretty excited about the future - job opportunities look pretty good in his field right now, so we are looking forward to moving on from the extremely difficult and stressful situation we have been in the last year and a half. I am not thrilled about moving to Grandma's house, but we are very blessed to have that option. I am also not thrilled about a double move because we will be moving again when we find a job. While at Grandma's house we will be storing most of our stuff, so that kind of stinks.

Hope y'all have an awesome week!

FBFF: Halloween

top, skirt, boots: thrifted

This is actually from a back to school 'Cowboy Up' party back in August. But I thought you might enjoy seeing my Cowgirl look. ;)

1. Do you have plans for Halloween? The Wednesday night before Halloween we have our annual Fall Festival at church. I will be running around doing stuff the entire time so my costume has to be easy to move around in. Last year I wore black sweats with bunny ears. ;) This year I've decided to go the french girl route - stripe sweater, black pants & flats with a red beret. My outfit isn't nearly as important as the Munchkin's! He gets to be Bumblebee this year and is so excited he can't stand it. ;)

2. Where do you go for costume and makeup inspiration? Ummm....Nowhere. Informative I know, but I'm not a huge halloween person. The only reason I dress up is for the kiddo. ;)

3. What was the best costume you've ever donned?  Well, like I said we've never been much into to dressing up, so no really great costumes have been donned. I had an awesome pink princess dress that I thrifted back in high school and wore one year for fall festival with long white gloves and a tiara. I guess that was probably the best.

4. What's the most creative costume you've ever seen? I loved the series that Jessica from What I Wore did on costumes - The Hamburglar had to be my fave. So cute.

5. No holds barred, if you could dress up as anything, what would it be? I love the medieval lady costumes - not the cheapo walmart/target ones, but the real things that cost like $400. Of course, no jumping in bounce houses or hanging out on the floor while playing games with the Munchkin, so not really practical. Eh. Maybe someday.

On a personal note, so sorry for the long absence. I was sick for a while, got stung by a wasp on the back of my head (OUCH!), had a case of food poisoning, and life just generally sucked for a while. I do have some big news to report, but I'll get to that later.

That's all.
Bye now.

FBFF - Fads

leopard print shoes

skinny jeans and oxfords

army jacket and oxfords

1. Do you ever see a fad hit the stores and immediately dislike it? Oh, yes, all the time. Skinny jeans, leopard print, army jackets, oxford shoes. Has that fad ever began to grow on you? Obviously! It just takes me a while to decide that I like something. ;)

2. Has the popularity of a certain piece of clothing or line ever convinced you to try on something (or purchase something) you dislike? Nope. If I don't love it, I don't buy it. Period. With a limited budget, you only buy what you are completely in love with. Just because everyone else loves it, doesn't necessarily mean that I will like it or that it will fit into my lifestyle or closet.

3. Have you ever changed your mind about a trend after seeing it around for a while? Indeed. It took a year or two before I would even consider wearing skinny jeans. Actually it wasn't until I was pregnant that I began to like the look.

4. Do you feel a certain pressure to have specific items in your closet because 'everyone' else does? Not really. Indeed, often when I see everyone going nuts for something, I avoid it like the plague. I don't want to look like everyone else. I loathe uggs. It doesn't matter how many people wear them or how popular they are (and believe me, they are very popular around here once the weather gets cool) I think they are hideous. Same thing with crocs clogs (shudder)!

5. Be honest, what do you think of the Missoni line? I didn't really pay that much attention to it. Although I love Target, I only shop the clearance racks. I'd rather not torment myself with stuff that I just can't afford. Did you grab any items? Nope. If any of them make it to the clearance rack, I'll consider it then. I think the flats were cute, but I just purchased a pair of striped flats, so I probably won't purchase them even on clearance. Is it worth the eBay prices? I have no idea. Generally the designer lines that Target does are decent quality. I still have two of the suits that came out years ago from Isaac Mizrahi. They are still in great shape and with classic styling will last for years. Truthfully though, I didn't purchase them because of the designer name, but because they were beautiful suits on clearance in my size. At the time, I was still working in an office and wearing suits most days.

Thrifty Thursday

jacket, jeans & bag: thrifted, tank: target, shoes: payless

Hello lovely ladies! Welcome to Thrifty Thursday.  Rather than showcasing my thrift store finds this week, I thought I would show off my new nude flats. I love the leg lengthening look of the nude heels, but heels are just not practical for me on a daily basis. So, when I found these at Payless I was really excited. They had been marked down to $12 which is still a little more than I like to pay, but reasonable enough that I was willing to go for it. Unfortunately the store I was at didn't have them in my size. However they happily called another store nearby and located a pair for me. Here's the great part. Payless gives you a coupon for $4 off that purchase when they don't have your size. So, I got them for $8. Works for me. When you are on a budget it pays to wait until things go on sale. Occasionally you can even luck into a further mark down. Payless has been doing a great job on shoes lately, so if you haven't checked them out recently, you should definitely do so.

A quick note: I haven't made the effort to link my clothes and shoes to their purchase sites because the vast majority of them were purchased at thrift stores or on final clearance. Most of them are pretty old. For instance in this outfit the only things still available are the shoes (in limited sizes and quantities and the necklace from Forever21. I've had the jeans for about 8 years, the tank top was final clearance from Target last summer, and the jacket and bag are thrifted. So, a question: do you, my readers; want me to link the few pieces that are still available to purchase online? Please let me know what you think?

Have a lovely evening!

Work it Wednesday - Striped Flats (and skinny jeans)

striped Steve Madden flats from Goodwill
with jeans and a silky blouse

with skinny jeans and another silky blouse

with the same skinny jeans and tee and cardi

This Wednesday I am working my new striped flats. Which I apparently keep wearing with the same distressed skinny jeans. Eh. If it works, it works. Maybe next time I wear them, I'll get all adventurous -like and wear them with a skirt. Yikes!

Happy Wednesday, y'all!

Thrown on Succcess

cardi & jeans: charlotte russe, tee: walmart, shoes: thrifted, bag: forever 21

So, I just threw this outfit on as I was running out the door and it was surprisingly successful. I really love the coral tee with the purple bag and striped flats. These are seriously the most awesome shoes! They go with everything, are super comfy and completely adorable. Love.

I promise I wasn't getting all artsy with my camera angles, that is just what happens when you put the camera on the side mirror. ;) One of these days, I am going to get a tripod, but it isn't in the budget at the moment. Besides, I would rather buy shoes than a tripod any day! ;)

Night!

1982 Called

blouse, skirt, bag, & shoes: thrifted (wow)

asymmetrical neck-tie
So, 1982 called about my outfit. My skirt is too short, my hair isn't big enough and how dare I remove perfectly good shoulder pads from a perfectly good blouse! Other than that, it (1982) likes my outfit.

That's all.
