Easy Breezy Summer Style

dress: cato, sandals: payless

eeek - my foot is invisible!

necklace by me

yellow sandals from yesterday's post
I am having a serious love affair with this dress, y'all. I think this is only the second time I've featured it on the blog, but I've worn it at least five or six times. It is just so freaking easy. You throw it on, add shoes and a belt or necklace and you're done. I went with my new yellow sandals and a quick necklace refashion. You can see the original here. I decided I didn't like the fabric look with it and so I popped the beaded portion off and added it to the chain portion here and viola. New necklace. And just so I can be all matchy matchy my toes fortuitously matched my dress.

So, since it's Friday I'll be linking up with all kinds of lovely ladies. All Things Chic, 5Days5Ways, Blonde Episodes, Casual Friday, and Friday Fancies. Whew, lots of partying going on here!

Happy Friday, y'all!

Thrifty Thursdays - Payless Shoes

Happy Thursday, y'all! I thought I'd share some thrifty finds from one of my favorite shopping places for shoes - Payless Shoes! They are having their BOGO sale right now, which means buy one get a second pretty much anything for half off. Also Payless ships online orders to any store for free. Which means you can order online, go pick up and try on, and even return if necessary at your local store.

Shop
Aren't these adorable! I would love a pair of coral sandals and these are so cute. They are girls, but available in extended sizes. A four and half fits me and I wear a 6 to 7 in ladies. A six in girls sizes is probably comparable to an 8 ladies. At $14.99, they are a great buy and available in four other colors!

Shop
While I am not sure I could manage such a giant platform, these are gorgeous. And on sale for $19.99. They are available in four other colors including coral and a bold purple and hot pink color blocked style. Super fabulous! ;)

Shop

I just got these. They are surprisingly comfortable for such a flat sandal. They are on sale for $9.99 and available in (you guessed it) four other colors including turquoise and pink! I love the yellow though! I have been searching for a cute yellow sandal since April and these are the first I've found that were in my price range and that I loved. ;)

Shop
And then there are these. I've had my eye on them since they came out back in the early spring and have just been waiting for the price to go down. They are now $19.99. Still more than I am willing to pay, but a great deal none the less. They are also available in red and leopard.

There you have it. Some cute shoe options for great prices. What do you think? Are you a payless fan?

Trend of the Month - Colorful Blazers!

jacket: thrifted, tank: target, wedges: payless, shorts: cato

(there is a sock on my head, y'all)

super cute little girls wedges from payless

Happy Wednesday y'all! So, today is Marionberry's Trend of the Month link up. Colorful blazers. Yee -ikes. It was 104 here today. So. I wore the blazer for the pics and carried it into Wal-mart in case I got cool. I didn't. In other news, there is a sock in my hair. Easiest bun ever and look at how neat it is. Perfect. Also, I have once again succumbed to my love for children's footwear. Yep. Those are kiddie shoes. Aren't they adorable. Flowers, a t-strap, and a mini wedge. More perfection. So, I'd say it was a good day sartorially.

Of Cobalt Blue and Twelve Year Old Boys

blouse: thrifted, shorts: walmart, sandals: charlotte russe

I love this blouse. I may have mentioned that before. Also, I wore this a couple of weeks ago before the weather got so unbearably hot. Right now even the though of longish sleeves makes me cringe. ;)

In other news, I have realized that I have the movie tastes of a 13 year old boy. Yep. I love fantasy, action adventure and superhero movies. I hate anything Nicholas Sparks, rarely like romantic comedies and chick flicks bore me. I would rather watch Transformers or the Avengers. Or Red. Oh my gosh. If you haven't seen Red with Bruce Willis and Helen Mirren you are missing out. It is crazy hilarious. And fun. A group of retired CIA agents have to go on the run and figure out why they are being eliminated. Also, the girl Bruce's character likes looks an awful lot like Kendi. ;) Have you seen it? Anyone else out there like boy movies better than girl movies?

Inspiration Monday

jacket: ?, dress: forever 21, sandals: payless

photobombed!

how I really wore it!
Inspiration
Eh, It's Monday, y'all. We have been traveling every weekend for the last month, and I am worn out. Whew. Here's hoping for a calm, quiet, travel free week. ;)

Here is what I wore for Inspiration Monday. I have had this jacket for about 15 years I think. Obviously I don't remember where it came from! ;) Also, considering that it was over 100 degrees today, I didn't actually wear the jacket for longer than it took to take the pictures! Of course, we spent most of the day in the water, so I didn't even wear the dress for longer than it took to go to Walmart and then the lake.

FBFF: After the Wearing

dress: not a particularly flattering color - bye bye

white shorts: have gotten way too big - bye bye

black shorts: uncomfortable waistband - bye bye

red skirt: also gotten way too big in the waist - bye bye

Happy Friday y'all! So, this week's FBFF is about what we do with the stuff we don't wear anymore. I went through my archives and found a few things that have been purged in the last year. Because of my weight loss the red skirt and white bermuda shorts have gotten so big in the waist that they won't stay up. The nude/peach dress went because the color wasn't particularly flattering and that photo up there is the only time the dress got worn. The black shorts were a thrifted find that ended up being really uncomfortable in the waist. All three went to my favorite consignment store to earn me more shopping cash!

Now without further ado, here are my answers to this week's questions. If you want to play along, go check out FBFF at Modly Chic!

1. How often do you go through your closet to purge the things you no longer wear? Usually twice a year, in the spring and the fall. However, due to crazy times around here, I haven't done my spring purge yet. In fact I haven't even taken my winter stuff out of my closet yet. Yikes. It's JUNE! I should probably get on that. :)

2. What do you do with the things you are through with?If the stuff is in really good shape it goes to my favorite consignment store, Yours Truly. If you are in the Conway, Arkansas area, check it out, it is huge and awesome. The stuff that is a little more worn or faded either goes to Savers or is put away for a garage sale. I currently have about four garbage bags full of stuff for a garage sale. (Not only my stuff, also my hubby's and kiddo's.) Time to get on that too. (Man who knew writing an FBFF post would add to my to do list!?)

3. Have you ever sold on consignment or through online boutiques? Consignment - yes, all the time. Online - nope never tried it. Not sure I ever will.  What has your experience been like?I have always had very positive experiences with consigning clothing, shoes, purses etc. Of course I have a great relationship with the owner of my favorite store. (I babysat her kids long before she opened the store - now said kids are the adults running the store. Makes me feel old. Seriously.)

4. More and more people are concerned about the fast rotation of fashion and how that is filling our landfills. What are you doing to decrease your clothing trash pile?Ummm, I don't generally throw clothes away, unless we are talking about undergarments or something that is hopelessly stained or torn. I also am pretty strict about my buying habits and only purchase what I really need, will use and completely love. This means that my discards are generally small. I also rarely purchase truly trendy items which means that most of my clothing gets worn for years - I have had the pink keds in the above pic since high school (at least 16 years ago), the red skirt and nude sandals are at least 8 to 10 years old, same with the aqua sweater.

5. What's been your favorite/best score from a thrift store or consignment shop? Wow, that is really hard to answer, because I do a huge portion of my shopping from thrift or consignment stores. Two of my favorite finds over the last year or so are a cream cashmere Oscar de la Renta sweater and a khaki silk/cotton skirt.

BDIB: Mint & Coral

Can I just say that I am over the moon excited about this BDIB. Mint and Coral are my favorite colors to put together right now.

Here are just a few of my pinterest pins. Oddly enough, mint (or it's big sister teal) and coral keep showing up.

via
I am utterly totally and completely in love with this outfit. Seriously, y'all. The bag, the shoes, the pants - utter perfection. (I am drooling. Literally drooling.)

via
And this outfit - also super, super cute. I would so wear this. Well, my version would include shorts and flat sandals. But still. Love.

via
This is perhaps more pink than coral, but still, I love the white with the mint and those floral shoes are so pretty. I am not crazy about the bag and bronzey nail polish, but everything else is perfect.

And this one, with just the coral and minty accessories. I adore that skirt and the wedges and bracelets are just lovely. (sigh)

So, there you have a few of my inspirations. Aren't they pretty. So, how did I wear coral and mint together?

A Minty Preview

cardi: cato, tee: gadzooks, capris: jcpenney, flats: tjmaxx

Hello lovelies! So, since tomorrow is BDIB: Coral and Mint, I thought I'd do a little preview. I wore this last week for my Munchkin's birthday party. Easy and comfy. I have had this tee shirt and flats since somewhere around 2004. Maybe longer. Wow. Apparently I keep my clothes around a for a while. ;)

Do you still wear clothes from 8 years ago? Or is it just me.

Inspiration Monday!

It has been a while since I have participated in Inspiration Monday over at Two Birds, but when I saw this pic I knew I had to give it a try. Of course here in the South it is too hot for jackets and jeans so I did a vest and red shorts. Same general idea. Something about black and white and red is so bold and classic (and yet still a little 80's at heart).

the odd growth over my ear is actually a flower in my hair!

And since it's Monday and we all need some party time on Monday, I'll be linking up with these lovely ladies: Monday Mingle, Visible Monday, and Harper's Happenings.

Have a lovely week!

FBFF: Vacation!

So, the timing on this FBFF is just about perfect. We have been planning a trip to St. Louis with my brother and his family since Christmas. We went last weekend and had a blast. If you haven't been - go. It is incredible.

We stayed together in a cabin at Jellystone - primarily because being together in a cabin worked out better for us two little boys who went bed before we were ready to. We could spend time together after the boys were in bed.

We started out at the Arch, which was amazing and fun. My sister in law has those pics and hasn't posted them for me yet, so you don't get to see. Sorry about that. ;)

We went to Grant's Farm and had a blast seeing animals and feeding baby goats. It was great fun and my kiddo had a blast with the goats, who kept trying to eat everything in sight.

We had a picnic in the car and then headed to the City Museum. Wow. Y'all, if you are ever in St. Louis, go to the City Museum. It is the most amazing place ever. We had a ball. It is like a giant playground for all ages. My kiddo had a blast, I had a blast, my hubby had a blast (seriously y'all, a ten story slide was involved). It is just incredible and well worth the $12 admission.

We followed the fun up with a steak dinner and sleep. My brother's family spent the next day at Six Flags, but we had to head home. It was a great weekend and we will definitely be going back.

Have you ever been to St. Louis? Grant's Farm? The City Museum? What did you think?
